From the Principal-designate, Jo Myhill-Johnson

Thank you for your interest in this important role. I am delighted that you want to play your part in leading Thomas Middlecott Academy on its transformation journey.

This is a really crucial role in our new streamlined structure. You’ll join our SLT of three, working closely with me and our Assistant Principal to deliver rapid, permanent change across the school. Our middle leadership structure is moving to four faculties (Maths & IT; English & Expressive Arts; Science & Technology; and Humanities & MFL), and with a new common curriculum being rolled out across the David Ross Education Trust, we are absolutely focused on delivering the world-class education our pupils deserve.

As Vice Principal, you will have responsibility for pupil progress, behaviour and welfare, and personal development, with everything you do underpinned by an unswerving focus on pupil outcomes. You’ll also be responsible for nine hours of teaching per week, so your leadership strengths must be matched by the highest calibre of classroom practice (science or technology would be a definite advantage).

We are embedding a culture of high aspiration and expectation: we want to see a school where pupils are ready to learn, staff are ready to teach, and there are no excuses for under-achievement. You must be sufficiently experienced to hit the ground running, with a demonstrable focus on making change happen – and stick. Practical, resilient and a reliable source of energy, you’ll also be a strategic thinker, able to support me with the long-term planning of the school. Strong candidates will appreciate this opportunity to advance their own career ambitions, while deriving significant personal reward from enabling Thomas Middlecott to become the exceptional school that we know it can be.
